Abstract

This study aimed to analyze social networks as alternative tools for the development of citizen competences and to describe the typology of these. Theoretically he supported the approaches to citizen competences of Chaux, Lleras and Velázquez (2012) and conceptualization on social networks of Royero (2007, cited by Indova, 2011), Boyd and Ellison (2007), Ellison and Boyd (2013), Santamaría (2008). The paradigmatic context was quantitative positivist, descriptive research, with non-experimental field design. The population exhibition was twenty-one (21) high school basic students from the Beatriz Gutiérrez De Vives District Educational Institution. A census and survey observation technique was implemented using a scale instrument with response alternatives always, almost always, almost ever and never, validated by five experts and with a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.86. It is evident that the types of social networks are a strength for schools, by enabling the implementation of actions aimed at citizen competences
